My company built a 3D wooden map for an exhibit called Data Through Design, held as part of NYC's Open Data Week. The height of each Manhattan neighborhood's block represents the total number of street trees in that neighborhood. The legend on the base tells more about the species and precise location of the trees.
This is on display in DUMBO, Brooklyn this week: datathroughdesign.com/twon.html.
@anbnyc I really like it. As a data viz person and a sometimes woodworker, I'm curious about the build process. Any plans to write it up?
@evan glad you asked! our creative director published this about the process: http://datadrivenjournalism.net/featured_projects/manhattan_tree_map_a_data_through_design_exhibit
@anbnyc Awesome - thanks for the link.
