Wooohoo! Just checked sign-ups, and we've just reached the 200 mark. I'll be writing notes and addressing envelopes tonight. You can still sign up, and get us to 300!

1. You sign up.
2. I mail a sticker to you.
3. You tell me when it arrives.

where were you when you found out the UK's track and trace software (which cost 12 billion quid) has excel as a backing database

sadly there is a backlog of cases which were untracked because they exceeded the excel row limit

worry not, they have solved the problem and are now using two excel files to keep track of people

Meditating on Black Lives Matter for today's drawing, and ignoring the official prompt. The alternating colors encode the message, and I wrote the key on the outer edge of the flower.

There is now a Mastodon instance for publishing scientists: FediScience.

Everyone is welcome from PhD student to professor, as well as researchers from outside of academia. You are welcome to stay afterwards, but it is also easy to change to another server.

There will be a lot of science talk on this server, but there is no need to only talk science

Boosts are appreciated to let others know about this new instance.

Going to distract myself this evening by addressing envelopes and writing little notes to folks who sign up for my project.

How it works:
1. You sign up,
2. I mail a sticker to you,
3. You tell me when it arrives.

In these times, we need to share joy and rebellion with each other.

“This is a tiny project. It’s probably not going to make any difference. But it’s helping me get past my frustrations and start looking for bigger things to do.” — @kristinHenry

Honestly, if I've learned anything from my project it's that people need to start sending each other letters and postcards again! I've experienced so much wonderful, human, personality, dog-cat-eaten mail and charts.

As part of my project, a wonderful and encouraging letter arrived for me today from He reminded me that I'm not sharing as many project updates here as I could be. I realize I didn't want to spam.

But here's the most recent update

Today's official prompt is 'wisp', so I'm playing with kelpy inspiration and drawing a watery wisp for to day's drawing.

So, those who don't like being assulted with political and pandemic news from the US might want to adjust filters and/or follows or lists, or just plain take a break for ... some time, I might think.

(I'm not planning on obsessing. But will probably be commenting occasionally.)

Ok, I'm changing my story here. I did draw a fish, but it's so small, you can't see it behind the seaweed in today's drawing.

It's ! Rather than following an official (or unofficial) prompt, I went with seaweed inspiration for today's and drawing.
